WHAT SURGICAL REMOVAL OF GYNECOMASTIA CAN DO FOR YOU

Gynecomastia refers to the unilateral or bilateral enlargement of the male breast. The enlargement may occur due to an increase in the mammary gland ("true gynecomastia") or due to obesity ("pseudogynecomastia"). Mixed forms are also possible. For many men, feminization represents an enormous restriction of their quality of life, as they feel less masculine. In addition, gynecomastia is often associated with pain. Many men also no longer dare to show themselves topless. Do you also wish to have a firm chest that is not enlarged? This can be achieved by surgical removal of gynecomastia.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF GYNECOMASTIA?

The cause of mammary gland enlargement is the ratio of estrogens to androgens: If the estrogen effect predominates, the glandular tissue grows. There may be an increased responsiveness of the hormone receptors of the mammary gland to female sex hormones or their stimulation by gonadotropic hormones. Gynecomastia may also be a symptom of systemic diseases. This must be taken into account in the diagnosis. The medical history provides clues as to whether medications altered the breast. For example, hair tonic with estrogen can promote the development. Other causes may be anabolic steroids, alcohol or drugs.

DIAGNOSIS OF GYNECOMASTIA

Since hormones cause the feminization of the male breast, you should first consult a urologist. He can find out the exact cause and detect any malignant diseases. In about half of the cases, no exact cause can be described (idiopathic gynecomastia).

WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME FOR THE OPERATION?

It is important that the cause of the gynecomastia is treated first. This includes stopping the medications that trigger it. The surgery is not a treatment of the feminized breast, but only an aesthetic improvement to increase the well-being of men and also to reduce unpleasant feelings of tension. The ideal time for the procedure is when the underlying condition has been treated. If the breast area appears feminine due to weight gain, you should lose weight before the operation and keep it constant for several months. This is important so that the result remains permanently firm.

During puberty, the breast may enlarge due to an imbalance of hormones. This breast enlargement usually recedes even without surgery.

THE INTERVENTION FOR A REAL GYNECOMASTIA

True gynecomastia often feels painful for affected men. In order to reduce the enlarged breast, it is important that all the tissue is removed. Our specialists will discuss which methods are best for you during an initial consultation. It is possible to remove only the excess fatty tissue, part of the skin or the glandular cells. During the personal appointment, you will describe your wishes for the result and receive all the important information about the operation.

Depending on the method, you will receive local anesthesia, light twilight sleep or general anesthesia. The punctures and incisions are made in inconspicuous places so that the scars afterwards are as inconspicuous as possible and hardly anyone will see them. In addition, the method depends on whether you can go home afterwards or spend a night at Medical INN for monitoring.

To ensure that your breasts will look permanently firm and masculine, you will be given compression garments after the operation, which compress the tissue. This reduces the risk of swelling. At the same time, it helps the skin to lie tightly against your chest muscles. You should wear these continuously for the next 4-6 weeks. After the procedure, you will be told how long you need to wear the compression garment for the best results. During the first 6 weeks after the procedure, you should also refrain from sports and avoid other physically demanding activities. Light work is possible again after 1-2 weeks. For the final result, it is important that you have the primary cause of male breast enlargement treated and keep your weight stable as much as possible.

COST OF SURGERY FOR GYNECOMASTIA

The exact cost of the treatment depends on the exact methods. In some cases, in the case of genuine gynecomastia, there is a possibility that health insurance companies will cover the costs. We will be happy to advise you on this in our personal consultation.
